APTA 2015 Kuala Lumpur Conference Report

The 21th Asia Pacific Tourism Association Annual Conference at Dorsett Grand Subang Hotel Kuala Lumpur was held from May 14 to 17, 2015. The conference was a great success, helping participants realize its topic, 쏡evelopments of the New Tourism Paradigm in the Asia Pacific Region.혻A total of 192 valuable delegates and board members came from 16 different countries or regions (Korea, USA, Australia, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Iran, New Zealand, Macao, UK, Vietnam, and France). The participants were from various fields. They were academics, researchers, industry professionals, and city/government officials.

Many interesting papers (75 papers) in various fields (e.g., Tourism planning, tourism marketing, operations management, information technology, finance/economics, mice, human resource management) were presented at the conference. In addition, there was keynote speech. Dr. Sarinder Kumari, Pemandu, presented with the topic of “Development of the new Tourism Paradigm in the Asia Pacific Region”.

Among 75 papers presented, The Best Paper Awards were given to혻Chaang-Iuan Ho, Yu-Chun Lin, Yu-Lan Yuan, and Ming-Chih Chen혻for their paper “Tourism Information Search Process of Smartphone Users: Model Development and Validation”, and to Li-Pin Lin혻for her paper “Modeling the Factors Leading Tourists toward Slow Travel: The Evidence of Industrial Tours in Taiwan”. The Dr. Hai-Sik Sohn (Conference founder) Award was given to Atsushi Kawakubo, Mihoko Kasuga, Kenichi Itao, Makoto Komazawa, and Takashi Oguchi혻for their paper “Effects of Short-stay Vacation on the Mental Health of Japanese Employees”.

Overall, the APTA 2015 Kuala Lumpur Conference undoubtedly promoted more exchanges between tourism industries in Asia-Pacific. In addition, this conference provided ample academic spaces and opportunities for the tourism/hospitality scholars and industry professionals to share and exchange their research outcomes and ideas. The venue for the APTA 2016 Conference will be Beijing, China.
